Welcome to Harbourside! We are a friendly, supportive group of Toastmasters!

The way the world moves is changing constantly,
however two key components are always present;
- Communication
-
Leadership
Harbourside Toastmasters is here to assist with this. Founded in 1995, Harbourside has a proud and long history of serving the Wellington community in developing today’s members.
Communication
The foundation of Toastmasters is in communication and the education programme is built around communication and developing your skills. Communication in Toastmasters is more than just public speaking. It's more than just prepared speeches.. It's about unlocking and developing skills that you have in being able to speak off the cuff and provide constructive feedback to a friend, colleague or family member.
When you start your journey with Toastmasters, you start with the Icebreaker. This is a four to six minute speech which you introduce yourself to your club - it also allows your mentor and yourself to take a snapshot of where you are at. The next nine speeches you deliver to the club are about developing the key components around communication and the message you are trying to deliver. But it doesn’t stop there - you then get some freedom to explore other areas with specialist topics in the advanced manuals. Toastmasters will also develop your impromptu speaking skills, but taking part in Table Topics sessions (one to two minute speeches) as well as delivering evaluations to your fellow club members.
Leadership
The lesser known component is developing your leadership skills. By taking part in meetings you will be doing more than just speaking, you are supporting your club members who are taking the same journey as yourself. Each meeting has a number of roles to be filled, from Chairperson, to Time Keeper to Speech Evaluator. You may also want to serve on the club committee, being involved in running the club as the club strives to be the best it can be to serve it’s members.
We invite you to come along to Harbourside and experience Toastmasters - who knows where you might end up?
You may even end up the next World Champion of Public Speaking
